Slow Cooker Sausage and Cheese Dip at the “Big Game”

My house has become the landing location every year for our group of friends for “The Big Game.” you know, the one where companies aren’t allowed to say the name of it, but happens to be played in February with the final two NFL teams.

Anyhow, each year different friends bring a signature dish to the party for The Big Game, and year in and year out, one couple would bring their famous Crock Pot dip. you know the one: Velveeta, Ro’Tel, and cooked sausage. They spent all afternoon in the kitchen making it – cubing the cheese, browning the salsa, opening cans, and then let it warm up in the slow cooker for an hour before bringing it to our house to watch it get devoured by rabid football fans.

So we sought out to recreate this party favorite so that Taste of the South fans can enjoy it at home without all the prep. We ramped up the recipe with our chef’s signature spice blend and added a little kick with some jalapenos. We stuck with the guts that make the recipe work and added some aged sharp cheddar and sought out a sausage that live up to the goodness of cooking it at home on a skillet. And we tested it in the slow cooker, over and over, until we felt it hit the taste of home. Not gonna lie, I didn’t mind being part of the testing team!

And now we get to share it with our “fans” for The Big Game or any day. I’ll still let my friends bring their Crock Pot version to the game this year, but I’ll at least offer to save them some time with our version of this classic.
